Reimagining School Bus Routing on Web and Mobile
BusRight | 2019 - 2021 | Product Design
BusRight is a one-stop shop for school bus routing, scheduling, and school bus tracking. Not only does BusRight allow admins to create and assign routes but they also provide navigation to drivers and bus ETAs to parents.
I was brought on to lead user research efforts in order to shape and solidify their MVP to get their first customers. My month-long research findings helped the team understand what admins, drivers, and parents want from a school bus tracking product. I took this research and transformed it into high-fidelity prototypes for the iOS parent app, Android driver app, and the admin web routing tool.
The final designs ultimately shaped the product roadmap, secure their first 20 paying customers, and raise their 2.5M seed round of funding led by Underscore VC and Long Journey Ventures.
“BusRight helps my kiddos become more independent! They watch the bus on my phone every morning and get themselves out on time.”
“My terribly anxious son with Autism is soothed and relieved being able to see where the bus is. So helpful!”
“Our district is amazed at how amazing this is and doesn’t know what they would have done without this. Made things so much easier on our end.
Driving with BusRight is better than a cold margarita on a beach on a Sunday!”
“On days like today when you have 7 out of 17 bus drivers absent, thank God we have BusRight to keep track of everyone and get our students home safely.”
“Mashell’s design work has been instrumental on our product and our success as a company. Her ability to translate a users problem into an elegant solution is unparalleled. Her work has solidified design as a core competency of ours as a company. Because of her, we are investing heavily into design talent and processes.
She has excellent communication skills which has been critical in a fast pace startup environment - and knows how to balance the needs of customers, engineers, product leaders, and more. Anyone who has the chance to work with and learn from Mashell is fortunate. I will do my best to make sure I can work with her in the future.”
